Master Study: Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904)

This master study was mainly focused on achieving the correct colour palette. The painting could have been more crisp, but the colour tone seems on track so I'll move on to another piece to study more.

I've been reading a couple books recently, one of which is $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau, and I'll be posting a book review in the upcoming days.

Master Study: Albert Bierstadt

I can't remember if I've ever done a master study before, but this was really refreshing and eyeopening, in terms of how much you can learn from master studies. Needless to say, I spent many hours on this study and it was actually very fun to paint!

I chose not to spend more time to make it exactly identical for a few reasons:

  1. I feel that I learned enough from this painting.
  2. There's no significant value in perfecting it — I rather spend time studying other elements in another painting.

This site is pretty good for finding masters to study from:

Pagoda Study

Pagoda is a tiered tower that originated from historic East Asia. Last night I did a short Pagoda study and modified some existing Pagoda designs.
